the challenge

Reframing the legacy.

Asheville School had a well-established identity and a compelling vision for its next chapter. Previous campaigns had often emphasized the beauty of the campus, its setting in the Southeast, its history and traditions.

The opportunity was not to abandon that heritage, but to shift the center of the story—putting the people who bring the Asheville experience to life at the heart of the campaign. Students, their experiences, and the dedication and personalities of faculty became the campaign’s north star.

the strategy

Creating a common language for the campaign.

People, Place and Program provided the foundation for a messaging platform that translated the campaign’s vision into stories that felt tangible and personal.

It also became a training and communications tool for volunteer stewards, board members and institutional leadership, providing a consistent foundation for personal outreach while allowing campaign ambassadors to make the story their own.

Working with an outside creative agency on the initial visual concept and campaign identity, I partnered with the internal marketing team to define the messaging platform, storytelling strategy and facilitation, and final art direction for the donor-facing view book.

campaign positioning

From institutional story to human experience.

We shifted the campaign narrative from an institution defined primarily by place and tradition to one centered on the people who make Asheville School distinctive. Student stories became the lens for showing the school’s impact—capturing individual passions, faculty relationships, and the experiences that shape students long after graduation.

the campaign in action

One unified story carried across the materials that moved the campaign forward.

The messaging and visual language were translated across donor communications, campaign materials, and presentations—giving every audience a consistent sense of what made Asheville School distinctive and why its future mattered.

The Result

The work gave school leadership, volunteer stewards, and fundraising teams a shared messaging foundation—one that could be adapted across conversations, presentations, and donor communications while keeping the focus on the people and experiences at the heart of Asheville School.
